ABOUT THE ARTIST

A native of Frankfort, Kentucky, John Brooks studied Political Science and English literature at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. For the last fifteen years Brooks has made his home in Louisville, with several years away in London and Chicago. In mid-2017 he launched Quappi Projects, an art-and-artist-focused gallery exhibiting work reflecting the zeitgeist.

 

Brooks is both a visual artist and a poet. His artwork is held in private collections in the United States, Great Britain, Australia, Germany, and India; his poetry is held in the libraries of the Goethe-Institut in Chicago and Literaturhaus München and has been published in Assaracus Journal; in 2013 his collection “There Are No Strangers in These Weeds” was shortlisted for Sarabande Books' Linda Bruckheimer Series in Kentucky Literature. He has exhibited widely in Europe as well as in Louisville galleries such as Swanson Contemporary, Kaviar Gallery, and The Green Building Gallery. Brooks is a recent recipient of an Artist Professional Development Grant from Great Meadows Foundation.
